What We Believe

About Pesa and Whitney / Our Statement of Faith

Our faith is centered on Jesus Christ, and the Bible is the foundation for what we believe and teach. As a nondenominational Christian marriage ministry, we help couples build marriages that honor God, strengthen their families, and reflect Christ’s love. We focus on the core beliefs that unite followers of Jesus while helping couples navigate the realities of marriage across cultures.

The Bible

We believe the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired and infallible Word of God. It is our final authority for faith and everyday life, including how we understand marriage, family, and relationships.

Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 · 2 Peter 1:20-21 · Psalm 119:160

One God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

We believe in one God, the Creator and Sustainer of all things, who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and are one God.

Scripture: Genesis 1:1 · Deuteronomy 6:4 · Psalm 90:2 · Matthew 28:19 · John 1:1-14 · Acts 5:3-4 · 2 Corinthians 13:14 · Colossians 1:16-17 · Hebrews 9:14

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully God and fully human. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and lived a sinless life. He died on the cross for our sins, rose bodily from the dead, and ascended to heaven. He is our Savior and Lord, and He will return in power and glory.

Scripture: Matthew 1:18-23 · John 1:1-14 · Hebrews 4:15 · 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 · Luke 24:36-43 · Acts 1:9-11 · Matthew 24:30

Salvation by Grace Through Faith

We believe all of us have sinned and need God’s forgiveness. Salvation is a gift of God’s grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ, not earned through good works or self-improvement. Through repentance and faith in Christ, we receive forgiveness, are made new by the Holy Spirit, and enter a restored relationship with God.

Scripture: Romans 3:23 · Ephesians 2:8-9 · John 14:6 · Acts 20:21 · Titus 3:5

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit lives in every believer from the moment of salvation. He helps us understand God’s Word, guides us in truth, and empowers us to follow Jesus. Through His work, we grow in love, patience, kindness, faithfulness, and self-control, including in the way we treat our spouse and family.

Scripture: John 14:16-17 · Ephesians 1:13 · 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 · Galatians 5:22-25

The Dignity of Every Person

We believe every person is created in the image of God and has inherent dignity and worth. People of every culture, ethnicity, and background deserve to be treated with love, compassion, and respect. Our convictions do not lessen our responsibility to love our neighbors, including those who do not share our beliefs.

Scripture: Genesis 1:27 · Matthew 22:37-39

Marriage and Sexuality

We believe God established marriage as a sacred, lifelong covenant between one man and one woman. God designed sexual intimacy to be expressed only within that marriage covenant.

We believe husband and wife are equal in dignity and worth and are called to faithfulness, sacrificial love, honor, and service to one another. Marriage is intended to reflect Christ’s love for His Church, and our teaching on marriage and sexuality is grounded in this understanding of Scripture.

Scripture: Genesis 2:18-24 · Matthew 19:4-6 · 1 Corinthians 7:2-5 · Ephesians 5:21-33 · 1 Peter 3:7 · Hebrews 13:4

Marriage, Culture, and Family

We believe husbands and wives are called to build a shared life together, honoring their parents while giving priority to their marriage covenant. We celebrate the richness of different cultures, but no cultural tradition or family expectation stands above God’s Word.

We help couples build a Christ-centered home, establish healthy boundaries, and face life’s challenges as a united front rather than turn against each other.

Scripture: Genesis 2:24 · Ephesians 5:31-33 · Ephesians 6:2-3 · Romans 12:2 · Mark 7:8-13

The Church and Christian Unity

We believe all who belong to Jesus Christ are part of His Church and are united in Him. We value the local church and encourage believers to grow through worship, prayer, Scripture, service, and Christian community. We work across denominational lines while remaining grounded in the core truths of the Christian faith.

Scripture: Ephesians 4:4-6 · Acts 2:42 · Hebrews 10:24-25

Eternity

We believe in the resurrection of the dead, God’s final judgment, and the reality of heaven and hell. Those who are saved through Jesus Christ will live eternally with God, while those who remain apart from Him will experience eternal separation from God.

Scripture: John 3:16 · John 5:28-29 · 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 · Revelation 20:11-15 · Revelation 21:1-4

Biblical Truth and Christlike Compassion

We seek to bring both biblical truth and Christlike compassion to our work. We encourage faithfulness, forgiveness, personal responsibility, repentance, and growth. We approach those who have experienced painful relationships, separation, or divorce with compassion and hope.

Our commitment to marriage never means excusing abuse, coercion, or requiring someone to remain in danger. We believe honoring God includes honoring the dignity and safety of each person.

Scripture: Ephesians 4:15 · Colossians 3:12-14 · Colossians 3:19 · Psalm 82:3-4
